Located at the unspoiled northern end of
California, Siskiyou County boasts unbeatable scenery ranging
from beautiful pine forests to barren lava beds, from verdant
farmlands to unspoiled wilderness.
The City of Mt. Shasta, on the western
flank of the mountain by the same name, is the hub of a four-city
region of south Siskiyou County consisting of Weed, Mt. Shasta,
Dunsmuir and McCloud. The crystal clear alpine lakes and amazing
mountain vistas make Mount Shasta a natural choice for fun and
relaxation. A natural playground in the great outdoors, Mount Shasta
draws many enthusiasts to the area, for its central location for
many backcountry areas. The Mt. Shasta wilderness area and Bunny
Flat are just miles out of town, as is the Castle Lake area, which
is a favorite for ice skating, ice fishing, snowshoeing and
backcountry skiing during late winter months. To walk the streets of
Mt. Shasta is to take in a breath of small town USA. The shopkeepers
are friendly, passersby greet other strollers with a friendly nod
and a smile, and the general pace of life here is unhurried. Mt.
Shasta's downtown area is home to many fine restaurants, art and
photography galleries, museums and quality shops.
Overlooking the city, indeed filling the city's
eastern view, is the 14,162' bulk of Mt. Shasta. A great deal has
been written about the mountain and its legends, the lenticular
cloud cap that it so often wears, and its folklore.

the Sacramento River Canyon, and in the Shadow of Mt. Shasta, was
once a major stop on the Southern Pacific Railroad, and is famous
for having the "Best Water on Earth." It is also noted for its
excellent fishing along the Sacramento River as well as its quaint
shops, river center, dining and galleries.

McCloud is a classic mill town. Exceptional
dining, in homey restaurants and aboard the luxurious Shasta Sunset
Dinner Train on the McCloud Railway, beckons both tourist and local
alike. The McCloud Heritage Museum recalls the haunting call of the
mill whistle and a time when big lumber ruled the economy. Quaint
local shops and a candy store host the main street that is know for
its Victorian appeal. Capturing amazing views of Mount Shasta,
McCloud is situated in a valley that is a preserved, natural alpine
area.

Weed, named for pioneer lumberman Abner
Weed, is situated at the southern end of the Alcan Highway. Home to
College of the Siskiyous, fresh air and friendliness, Weed is also a
town steeped in lumber history. Although most of the mills are long
gone from the landscape, Weed's lumber heritage is still very much a
part of the town's ambiance. The Kenneth Ford Theater at College of
the Siskiyous is a venue for many plays and concerts throughout the
year.
